ABSTRACT

Conclusion:

Our study suggests that external dacryocystorhinostomy with double flap anastomosis has no difference from external dacryocystorhinostomy with single flap for the surgical success rates.

Results:

Silicone tube implantation was performed on 31 of 57 eyes in double flap group and on 30 of 54 patients in single flap group. Mean follow up period was 18.8 months (5-27) in double flap group and 13 months (4-27) in single flap group. The success rate was 96,49% in double flap group and 96,29% in single flap group. There was no statistically significant difference between the surgical success rates of the groups (the fisher exact chi-square test, p> 0,05).

Material-Method:

Retrospective data of 111 eyes of 108 patients undergoing external dacryocystorhinostomy between January 2005-December 2006 in our clinic is evaluated. Single flap dacryocystorhinostomy was performed on 54 eyes (39 female and 15 male patients) and double flap external dacryocystorhinostomy was performed on a total of 57 eyes (43 female, 13 male patient). Seven patients were operated under general anesthesia and101 patients were ope-rated with local anesthesia.

To compare the results of external dacryocystorhinostomy operations performed with single flap and double flaps.
