ABSTRACT

Conclusions:

Clear lens surgery with Tecnis multifocal intraocular lens implantation in presbyopic farsighted eyes provided satisfactory results in near and far vision independent of glasses. Although majority of patients had night vision problems, overall patient satisfaction was high.

Results:

Mean uncorrected far visual acuity is measured 0.68± 0.19 in the first month postoperatively and 0.88± 0.12 in the sixth month. Best corrected far visual acuity was found 0.8 or above in all eyes both in the first and sixth months following the surgery. Uncorrected near visual acuities in the first month were measured Jaeger 2 (J2) or better in 93 percent of the eyes, while in the sixth month 94 percent of the eyes had an uncorrected near visual acuities of J1. Postoperative mean spherical equivalents were measured +0.60±0.50 diopters (D) in the first month and -0.03± 0.48D in the sixth month. Photopic contrast sensitivity in all spatial frequen-cies improved significantly in the sixth month compared to the first month after the operation (p<0,05). In the first month 34 percent of the patients complained of glare and 40 percent comp-lained of halos, while in the sixth month 20 percent complained of glare and 20 percent of ha-los. Except one, all patients were satisfied with the visual results.

Materials Methods:

Thirty eyes of fifteen presbyopic farsighted patients who had refractive lens surgery with Tecnis ZM900 multifocal lens implantation for the treatment of both near and far vision are included in the study. Uncorrected and best-corrected visual acuities in near and far, refractive errors and contrast sensitivities of the eyes and patient satisfaction crite-ria are recorded in the first and sixth months postoperatively.

Purpose:

To evaluate refractive and visual results of clear lens surgery and Tecnis multifocal intraocular lens implantation in presbyopic farsighted eyes and to assess patient satisfaction.
